I love soda. I know, maybe that is bad to admit, but I do. And don’t worry, I drink a lot of water too. Ha!
Living in Utah, flavored soda shops are everywhere. If you have ever been to Swig, Sodalicious, Fiiz, or one of the other Utah soda shops, you know exactly what I mean. You pick your soda, add syrups, fruit, cream, and suddenly a plain drink feels like a whole treat.
And now that dirty soda is having its moment thanks to TikTok, Swig, and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, everyone wants to know how to make these fun soda-shop drinks at home.
The good news? You do not need to live by a Swig to make your own dirty soda recipes.
These are some of my favorite flavored soda recipes to make at home using soda, Torani syrup, fruit purees, cream, and fresh lime. They are perfect for parties, summer nights, movie nights, birthday parties, or honestly just a fun little afternoon drink.
These are not official Swig recipes. They are just easy, soda-shop-inspired drinks that you can make at home for way less.
What Is Dirty Soda?
Dirty soda is basically a regular soda that gets “dressed up” with flavored syrups, cream, fruit purees, fresh lime, or other add-ins.
The classic version is usually Diet Coke or Dr Pepper with coconut syrup, lime, and cream. But there are endless ways to make it. You can use Sprite, Coke, Diet Coke, Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew, Fresca, sparkling water, or whatever soda you love.
Think of it like an Italian soda, but instead of starting with club soda, you start with your favorite fountain drink.
Why Make Dirty Soda at Home?
I love going to soda shops, but it can get pricey fast, especially if you are buying drinks for the whole family.
Making flavored soda at home is cheaper, easy, and so fun. It is also perfect for a party because you can set up a little dirty soda bar and let everyone make their own drink.
We have done soda bars for birthday parties, and they are always a hit.
You can keep it simple with 2-liter bottles, ice, syrups, and cream. Or you can make it feel more like a soda shop with pumps, cute cups, fresh limes, fruit purees, and flavored creams.
What You Need for Homemade Dirty Soda
Here are the basics I like to keep on hand:
Your favorite soda
Ice
Fresh limes or True Lime packets
Cute cups or tumblers
I have used Torani syrup for Italian sodas for years, and it is still my favorite for flavored soda too. It is just what my family likes best.
You can get Torani syrup from Amazon and keep a few favorite flavors on hand.
If you are just starting out, I love grabbing a summer Torani syrup 4-pack because those flavors are easy to mix with almost any soda.
I also highly recommend getting syrup pumps. They make the drinks easier to make and way less sticky.
And if you want a good cup that keeps your drink cold forever, I love my Yeti tumbler or this Stanley tumbler dupe.

How Much Syrup Do You Add to Dirty Soda?
This part is really personal, but here is my rule of thumb.
For a 20-ounce cup, I usually do about 2 quick pumps of syrup total.
For a 44-ounce cup, I usually start with about 4 pumps and then taste it.
It is always better to start with less syrup and add more. You can always make it sweeter, but you cannot really take syrup out once it is in there.
If you are using more than one flavor, split the pumps between the flavors. For example, if I am making a raspberry coconut drink in a 20-ounce cup, I might do one pump raspberry and one pump coconut.
How to Add Cream to Dirty Soda
Cream is what makes a dirty soda feel extra fun.
You can use:
Half-and-half
Coconut cream
Vanilla sweet cream
Flavored coffee creamer
Heavy cream
Sugar-free creamer
Add the cream last and pour it slowly over the top. It gives the drink that pretty swirled look.
Start with a small splash. You can always add more.
Can You Make Sugar-Free Dirty Soda?
Yes! This is one of the reasons I love making dirty soda at home.
You can use diet soda or zero sugar soda, and Torani also makes sugar-free syrups.
Some of my favorite sugar-free combinations are:
Diet Dr Pepper + sugar-free coconut + lime
Diet Coke + sugar-free vanilla + fresh lime
Coke Zero + sugar-free raspberry + coconut cream
Sprite Zero + sugar-free peach + strawberry
It still feels like a treat, but you can make it fit your preferences.
How to Set Up a Dirty Soda Bar for a Party
A dirty soda bar is such an easy party idea because everyone can make their own drink.
Here is what I would set out:
2-liter bottles of soda
A big bucket of ice
Torani syrups
Fruit purees
Fresh limes and lemons
Cream or coconut cream
Cups
Straws
A little recipe card with drink combo ideas
For kids, I would do Sprite, 7UP, Fresca, and fruit flavors.
For adults, I would do Dr Pepper, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, coconut, lime, vanilla, raspberry, peach, and pomegranate.
It is such a fun idea for birthdays, summer parties, BBQs, girls’ nights, baby showers, or movie nights.
